Billy the kid did what he did and he died
Despite only showing up on my radar recently Why? rapidly rose to being the band I have played more than any other so far this year. This doesn’t entirely surprise me as i have been on a mission to play them to everyone I’ve met since I got a feel for their standout track ‘The Hollows‘.
Their latest album Alopecia, from which the track is taken, is dotted with dramatic musical landscapes and melodic twists. Their indie rock execution is a perfect vehicle for Yoni Wolf’s trademark nasal half-rap half-sung reflections. It is fitting that he comes from a hip-hop background as his preferred story telling delivery is at times action packed and at time tongue-in-cheek but always instantly quotable.
