Chairlift release new single Sidewalk Safari

I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Whether you like it or not, clearly.

The best way to listen to an album for me is late at night when everything is totally quiet, then to lie on my back on the floor with big headphones on full blast. If it sounds bad with all this is place, then i’m afraid you have yourself a shitter, my friend. I know, right?… True dat.

Sidewalk Safari‘ drops from the sky like a paint bomb. Japanese Midi sounds and up-tempo pulses from the late eighties and the early nineties drip from a puddle of Cocteau Twins and Blondie style sighs. Ever heard those early arcade machines pipping and screaming?

Chairlift‘s new single from their upcoming album ‘Something‘ released January 24th on Young Turks is an exciting start.

This was listened to through the floor at night method and it blew my mind.

The chimes from the verse to the chorus are haunting, the vocals are rapid fire and pop, whilst the gritty bass synths remind you of the grimy dance punk of this intensely layered track.

Perhaps it’s greatest strength though, is it’s actually a bit of a mess. I mean this of course, as a compliment – just as I thought of Fever Ray‘s ‘I’m Not Done‘. These are sounds that aren’t expected to mesh, yet with Chairlift‘s imagination and throbbing balls, they achieve what can only be defined as a fantastic track to what promises to be an exciting and inspiring album.
