Hip Hop shows love for cars

I recently had the good fortune of watching a rerun of the excellent  school MTV Cribs episode that introduced Missy Elliott‘s ridiculously luxurious Miami home. Without fail anyone who has seen this episode will remember straight away that the rap superstar sleeps in a custom made Ferrari bed. This level of devotion, while possibly being extremely excessive, is not entirely out of the blue as Missy has a whole stable of super cars. To the extent that it has been reported that her own mother has had to beg her to spending all her money on buying new cars so regularly.

Another Hip-Hop star who has shown a devotion for all things fast, European and preferably customised has been 50 Cent. You can find the “In Da Club” star chilling in any of his beloved custom Lamborghini Murcielago, Rolls Royce Ghost, C63 coupe, Ferrari F430 or Bentley Mulsanne or possibly all at the same time if he feels like it. Think what you will about the guy’s music but you can’t argue that the guy has a great taste in cars.

Ironically the Queens native was recently involved in a pretty messy car crash while he was a passenger in his own SUV. He has since been released from hospital but you have to wonder whether the fact he had a top of the line luxury car may have contributed to saving his life. Admittedly Fiddy is as tough as nails given that he was shot at in the not so distant past. Once again what doesn’t kill him can only make him stronger.

Lastly, how can we forget what was potentially hip-hop’s most sacrilegious act when it comes to cars. As part of their promotional effort for their ‘Watch The Throne’ extravaganza Kanye West and Jay-Z thought it would be a great idea to take a blowtorch and a chain saw to what was a $300,000 Maybach. No doubt this was one way to display their financial clout.
