Introducing Los Angeles’ SleeperzzZ

sleeperzzZ is the new project from Steven Vernet and Kelly Gibbons. In a past life The former was a member of buzzed Los Angeles band White Arrows. Under this new project Vernet is able to explore a completely different set of sounds that, while not entirely forsaking his indie background, bring a whole lot of electronica to the table. Meanwhile Gibbons sometimes channels Debbie Harry‘s attitude and delivery, particularly on “Lost Cause“.

There’s a hazy quality to these tracks that feels reminiscent to the feeling you get when you wake up up the day after a party in a bed and house that is not your own. That is you are pretty sure how you got here but the details are a little blurry. For their self-titled debut EP the duo offer a carefree blend of 80s machinery, bittersweet melodies and (seemingly) as much Cali weed as is humanly possible to produce a winning combination.

Also worth checking is previously released track “Back To You” which in a parallel universe could well be the opening theme for a reboot of primetime soap opera Melrose Place.
