The Wild Wild offers anthem of joy “When We Were Young”

Beginning with a synth dawn chorus and morphing into happy cries of playing children amongst cheery ukelele’s, ‘When We Were Young‘ by Santa Cruz-based musician and songwriter Benjamin Dunn aka The Wild Wild, is an absolute anthem of joy even before it bursts to life in all it’s sentimental and playful glory.

Lying somewhere between the pounding pop grandeur of the Naked And Famous and the kitsch, sweet early Peter, Bjorn and John, It’s success is in part to it’s nostalgic 80’s low end synths, chorus reverberated melodies and how much fits within it’s three-minutes-ten time frame. I don’t say this often, but as far as pop songs go, it’s almost perfect.

Do you remember when we were younger, when all we wanted was each other’. I have to admit I do adore simple but heartfelt sentiments and the whole song doesn’t even have to rely on this brilliant and memorable chorus line alone. The chorus lead melodies evoke beautifully the essence of childhood against the darker minor notes of regret and lost love. I’d be very surprised if this didn’t turn out to be a fairly sizable hit.

When We We Young” opens The Wild Wild‘s debut EP ‘Kids‘, out now.
