Wallace releases breathless “Black Lake”

When musical historians will look back at this year they will likely declare 2017 the year of the marimba with seemingly every radio hit borrowing the sound in one way or another.

Wallace adopts a different approach on her recent single “Black Lake” using the instrument as part of a wider assemblage of sounds but not necessarily the focal point of the track. For the Sydney-based artist, this mix of organic and electronic elements present in this production offers an ideal base to showcase her range. Offering deliberately restrained melodies initially before responding to the tracks darker tones and crescendos with her own breathy R&B vocal pirouettes. It’s in these sharp contrasts that the track truly wins you over.

Black Lake” was co-written with Eskimo Joe’s Joel Quartermain and is taken from Wallace’s debut EP ‘Pole to Pole‘, which is out now.
