Multimagic release irresistible track “Dreams”

The track “Dreams” is a welcome return for the magnificent Cincinnati-based band Multimagic. This line-up (featuring Coran Stetter still on guitar and lead vocals, Evan Brown AKA producer Smokeface on drums, Meg Kekses on keyboards and vocals, James Ruehlman on guitar and Zach Madden on bass) has only been together for a year or so, but their collective effect makes them sound as if they’ve been together forever.

This is Multimagic’s first release since 2014’s superb “Let Go“, following a hiatus by Stetter whilst he launched Inhailer Radio online. Stetter has referred to the track as being about having to keep going after you’ve lost someone, but not actually getting over it until you’ve found somebody else. He says that it was pretty representative of what had happened with the band and so seemed like an appropriate first song to work on and put out together.

The song itself is indie dream-pop at its finest, immediately drawing you in with an addictive bass hook and holding you tightly in its otherworldly synth-pop melody. Citing influences by Death Cab For Cutie and Future Islands, no one can put it better than the band themselves when they say about the impact of the final rousing, choir- backed chorus: a rising, near-transcendent experience for the listener which elicits a chance to indulge in introspection while somehow bursting into an Adderall-infused lucid dream at the same time.

June 21 st saw the band’s first physical release, ‘Sunshine/Dreams‘ on 7-inch vinyl (released by SoulStep Records) and they promise to release new tracks every few months. Please do, Multimagic, you’re far too exciting to make us wait another 5 years.

Dreams is available across all online platforms now.
