Weekend Videos: Lola Marsh – “Echoes”

Echoes” is the latest crowd-crashing single by Israeli rock-royalty Lola Marsh. The internationally acclaimed band blends country twang with surf rock, delivering a retro powerhouse. From the electric guitar’s first wet licks, “Echoes” is a track that will get you off your feet, ready to hit the road in the spirit of adventure.

The song is extremely rhythmic, clapping hands beating into you like the impending crest of a wave. Reminiscent of Lana del Rey, vocalist Yael Shoshana Cohen’s seductively sweet voice drips with romantic nostalgia for ‘50s era rock. The smooth melodic climb, supported by Gil Landau’s trusty guitar, sets the song up as if it were a race. By combining elements reminiscent of both dream pop and psychedelic rock, Lola Marsh captivates the ear with energetic urgency.

According to the band, “‘Echoes’ is about that feeling you sometimes have when you want to disappear, but at the same time, want to be found. That scary beautiful moment just before falling asleep, when you are the most lonesome version of yourself.

Echoes” explores a paradoxical idea of not-so solitary individual isolation. Lola Marsh propels this conundrum by admitting that “…I know that they won’t save me, From the voices in my mind, And I know that I can’t run away and hide… And the sun begins to shine on the lonely one,” eventually concluding with a glimmer of hope for external contact and thus purpose that “‘… I’m here for someone.
