Introducing CUTTS

Initially conceived as a solo project from vocalist Lillian Cutts while she was living in Washington DC she enlisted producer/writer Peter Bonaventure to give a hand with a track. With more and more chemistry building CUTTS became a duo calling New York City it’s official home.

Our first exposure to them has been “Breathe“, a haunting track that flawlessly conveys that aching and universal feeling of heartbreak and hopelessness. Over a sparse piano-led track the gentle verses flow into each other enlarging the emotional impact with the help of some genuinely insightful observations that anyone can identify with. The trick here was in allowing the stellar vocals to soar and not to crowd them out with too much noise so that when the track takes off in the later stages it also sounds just right.

While “Breathe” showcases a more delicate side to the duo’s usual brooding sound it is worth seeking out the gorgeous composition of “Bad” which further serves to highlight what is a fruitful collaboration that appears to be bringing out the best in both Lillian and Peter and promises to be prolific in 2020.
