Cougar Microbes Top Albums of 2011: Radiohead – The King Of Limbs

As a teenager I dragged my dad to see Radiohead‘s The Bends tour in Milan most likely making me the youngest person in the audience and him the eldest. At the time I thought this would be a momentous occasion as we both witnessed a phenomenal show from what I was certain would be my favorite band for years to come.

Instead I began to lose interest/patience in the Oxford band somewhere around the turn of the century as they shifted towards megastar status. While I respected the compositions on the likes of ‘Amnesiac‘, ‘Hail The Thief‘ and especially ‘Kid A‘ I could not quite understand the level of adulation reserved for every beep and sound they produced.

While ‘In Rainbows‘ went a long way to repairing my relationship it is ‘The King Of Limbs‘ that won me back as a fan. In under 38 minutes Thom Yorke and co. reminded me of exactly why I loved their band and, crucially, allowing me to rediscover those releases I had been snubbing for all these years.

Make no mistake; this is not included purely on the romantic notion of a past love affair being rekindled.  TKOL represents as consistent set of tracks as the band have ever produced and an album that I have been able to listen to over and over again.

How To Alienate Half Your Readers

diegoThis is where I alienate half my readers by writing about my second biggest love, football. The new season is about to begin in all the major European leagues (if it hasn’t already begun) and its looking like exciting times; unless you are an AC Milan supporter that is.

Back in January I wrote a thinly veiled attack on Manchester City‘s hostile transfer policy. Sadly in that post I correctly prophesied the inevitability that Kaka would move to Real Madrid.

Turns out all the money in the world CAN buy you prestige.

All the money in the World can not buy you class or prestige

Football lives to see another day. For a while I thought Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite better known as the legendary Kakà was going to succumb to the charms of the petrol-dollars and become the World’s most expensive player but something happened behind the scenes that changed all that. Only one man is mad enough (and a big enough megalomaniac) to refuse an offer of 110 million and that is Silvio Berlusconi.  I’m not sure we’ve heard the last of this and he will probably head to Madrid in the summer (so i can always use the post i typed out in frustration) but for now I want to scream FORZA MILAN, FORZA RICKY!
