Thank fuck for The Hood Internet! Every time my music collection spits out one of their mashups it is guaranteed to get people listening.

Here is one they just published featuring Kanye and Ellie Goulding dueling over their respective “light” songs. I’ve also added the MJ vs. Ratatat mash from a while back because, well… because it is so damn cool.

I have been planning a 2 part post about each of The Anniversary’s releases ever since I started this blog (and maybe someday I’ll still pull it off). In short I loved the bands evolution between their debut ‘Designing A Nervous Breakdown’ and it’s ambitious follow up ‘Your Majesty’ and both albums hold a special place for me.

As the band split and went in their separate directions I kept a keen eye on the different members and in particular songwriter Justin Roelofs as he released a well received solo debut under the White Flight moniker. There has been relative silence ever since…

Over the past few years the elusive musician has been living in Guatemala, Peru, New Zealand and Hawaii. Finalising these recordings has been a real challenge but at last Range Life Records have begun revealing some of the tracks that will make follow up record ‘White Ark’.

Some of the tracks have been in the pipe line for years and yet this release manages to sound fresh and exciting. With beats provided by none other than  Ratatat ‘White Ark’ showcases a vibrant mix of electronic and organic sounds encompassing a whole range of geographic and genre influences. This is world music for the web 2.0 generation.

Things have been a little quiet at Cougar Microbes for a few days because I have had my hands full with booking a holiday (I don’t mind paying my share but £800 per direction takes the piss when its normally 1/5 of that amount), chasing shady (non) delivery companies but most of all I have been looking after my brand new kitten: Layla Dusty is tiny and dead cute, welcome to your new home.
