Yeasayer have been infected by today’s Valentine’s Day bug.
In addition to unveiling a new video for the dreamy ‘I Remember‘, taken from last year’s ‘Odd Blood‘, they are also giving away a mini EP featuring the track plus 2 sweet remixes.
Darwin Deez have taken 2010 by storm with their own brand of “genius pop”. Using specially tuned 4 string electric guitars and lyrics inspired by children’s books they have managed to create a form of Indie rock pop that is unlike any other.
Tracks such as ‘Radar Detector‘, ‘Bad Day‘ and ‘Constellations’ are best described as musical earworms. They go in through the eardrum and then hit the brain where they will squirm around for days, weeks or months even. The album has garnered much success; gigs and festivals have been greeted with shoals of sing- along fans, tons of radio airplay not too mention an almost sold out UK tour, heck even hit shows like The Inbetweeners have enlisted their musical help.
And If that’s not enough they’ve added an unusual twist to their live performances by inserting random displays of Calisthenics to music from the likes of Miike Snow, The Pointers Sister and Beyoncé Knowles.
In short Darwin Deez have dropped like a musical hand grenade onto this year’s music scene and if you’ve think you’ve pulled out all the shrapnel think again, because we’ve got some knockout remixes for you.
Ash are coming to the end of their crazy plan of releasing 26 singles over 52 weeks and have asked their fans to vote for their favourite song from the series.
The fans voted overwhelmingly for ‘Arcadia’ and so here is a wicked video game inspired clip created by Nico Jones from Big Button with bassist Mark Hamilton.
Mt. Desolation is the new project from Jesse Quinn and Tim Rice-Oxley, pianist and chief songwriter for Keane. Now there is a band I never thought would get a mention on this blog but ‘State Of Our Affairs‘ sounds both sparse and beautiful.
With contribution from members of The Killers, Noah & The Whale, Mumford & Sons and The Long Winters their self-titled debut could be mistaken for an attempt at celebrity one-upmanship. Fortunately the duo didn’t lose sight of their alt-country aspirations and recorded a collection of stunning tracks.
The resulting album echos a period in American music that remains much sacred and do it great justice.
Mt. Desolation‘s self-titled album is out on the 18th of October.
It’s hard to imagine a track like Green Jellÿ’s ‘Three Little Pigs‘ ever becoming a household favourite nowadays but back in 93 even my grandparents recognised and sang along to its chorus.
No doubt the ludicrously over the top claymation video made the track one I couldn’t forget.
For this weeks round of Weekend Videos I seem to be featuring songs that I loved from the early 90′s. Soul Asylum‘s breakout hit ‘Runaway Train’ was matched with an equally bewitching video.
Every person I showed this video to said it was the story of their life. Yesterday’s reference to The Breeders made me spin ‘Last Splash‘ again and this song is a perfect match.
