Weekend Videos: Teenage Sequence – “All This Art”

Teenage Sequence is the brainchild of Dewan-Dean Soomary, formerly a member of successful UK squat-punk mob The King Blues as well as the frontman of the massively underappreciated Bleach Blood, a band we remain very fond of.

Anyone who has followed Soomary on social media for a decent amount of time will be aware of his fondness for James Murphy. “All This Art” lives in the same realm as “Losing My Edge” by LCD Soundsytem without sounding like a photocopy, or worse, a parody. Rather, it genuinely feels like shedding the guitars from the mix and chatting over a repetitious beat represented the optimal way to convey this message. Another feature of the London-based multi-instrumentalist’s web presence is his unwavering commitment to anti-racism initiatives and equality and needless to say this message is also heavily felt here.

“‘All This Art’ is as much about the systemic racism of the U.K. music industry as it is my own neurosis,”

Dewan-Dean Soomary

Needless to say, at 6.23 the track is a little long for a traditional single, but within it contains enough snippets that will either make you smile or question something you had not given much thought to before. There are worst ways to get schooled.
