Edie Yvonne – “In The Rain”

At 14 I could barely manage the difficult task of wearing matching socks, let alone succeed in writing a half-decent song. At just 14 years old, Edie Yvonne demonstrates a level of emotional maturity and artistry that belies her age latest release. Her single “In the Rain,” is an exquisite testament to the depth of her musical prowess.

The track immerses listeners in a world of raw vulnerability and introspection. Edie penned it during a turbulent night in her hometown Los Angeles, channelling the emotions she was going through into a heartfelt melody. The result is a beautifully melancholic composition. With stripped-down guitar and ethereal harmonies, Edie creates an intimate atmosphere that invites you to share her emotions. The lyrics, delivered with sincerity beyond her years, explore the intricate nuances of hurt, pain, and the quest for inner peace.

.”In the Rain” is a poignant reminder of music’s power to heal and transform. Edie Yvonne, with her exceptional talent and genuine authenticity, is set to leave an indelible mark. As she continues her growth, we eagerly anticipate her future releases, She has proven that age is no barrier to creating timeless and emotionally resonant music.

Kim Vestin- “I Will Never Learn

Kim Vestin‘s “I Will Never Learn” is a poignant number that beautifully captures the bittersweet feeling of unrequited love. This alternative pop ballad redefines the narrative surrounding heartache, finding solace and even joy in the enduring embrace of painful emotions.

Hailing from the enchanting landscapes of northern Sweden, Kim Vestin‘s musical journey began at the tender age of 8, fueled by a hand-me-down piano and an innate talent for crafting soul-stirring melodies. To this day her vocals effortlessly oscillate between intimacy and grandeur, mirroring the vastness of her Scandinavian roots.

I Will Never Learn” channels influences like Bon Iver and The National while weaving in the commercial allure of more pop-oriented artists such as Olivia Rodrigo. Kim‘s evocative songwriting takes centre stage as the track transitions from a solitary piano accompaniment to a full-band crescendo. The production, helmed by Kim herself and Love Sivik, delivers an atmospheric and cathartic experience.

With this second single, Kim Vestin cements herself as one to watch in the Swedish music scene. We eagerly await her full album in spring 2024.

Grace & Moji – “Monster

Grace & Moji‘s “Monster” is a captivating track that’s impossible to resist. The dynamic husband-wife duo has outdone themselves with this deceptively upbeat, catchy tune that grabs your attention from the get-go, with their harmonious vocals sounding particularly stellar.

At its core, “Monster” delves into the idea that we all harbour our own kind of inner demons and insecurities, but facing them head-on can lead to personal growth and self-acceptance. The song’s relatable themes are skillfully blended with easily hummable melodies, resulting in an infectious listening experience.

Grace & Moji‘s music is a testament to their ability to fuse meaningful storytelling with a sonically engaging sound. With their debut EP on the horizon, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to predict big things for them in the near future.

Monster” not only sounds fantastic but also leaves you with a powerful message, which is perhaps the best calling card you could think of for Grace & Moji and their music.

Tonal Graffiti – “I’m Happy

Tonal Graffiti‘s “I’m Happy” is a burst of positivity and exuberance. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if 9 out of 10 dentists surveyed recommend the track for their patients to maintain a constant smile. Conceived as a tribute to a departed friend, this hip-hop-infused track radiates warmth and joy, reminding us that happiness can be found even in life’s most unpredictable moments.

Musically, the song offers a delightful fusion of funk elements, smooth organs, and the undeniable allure of a saxophone. It’s a musical cocktail that could veer into “cheesy” territory in the hands of the wrong artist, but here it comes across as both refreshing and infectious. The deep bass and echoed vocals add depth to the composition, while the catchy chorus leaves you hoping for the next time it comes around.

Tonal Graffiti is a relative mystery, being pitched as both an artist and a record label that takes a hands-on approach to releasing music. There is little promotional material around, but providing they keep crafting heartfelt and genuine anthems like “I’m Happy,” I don’t need a fancy backstory.

In a world that often seems uncertain, this track truly feels like a beacon of positivity, a reminder that good days are still within reach. The track is a ticket to a brighter day, and you won’t be able to resist its charm.

Alexa Valentino – “Boundary”

Boundary” by Alexa Valentino tugs at your heartstrings and leaves you spellbound with the 18-year-old singer/songwriter’s raw and honest storytelling.

From the very start sparse verses, coupled with Alexa‘s confessional vocals, create an intimate atmosphere that feels like we are eavesdropping on a deeply personal moment. The pre-chorus vocal run, and particularly the use of a vocoder/harmonizer is reminiscent of Imogen Heap, with Alexa’s voice vibrating with emotion.

As the song progresses, you can feel the tension building with every word, like pieces of a tragic lovers’ mystery falling into place. And just when you think you can’t take any more, the song explodes into a glorious crescendo. The inclusion of a guitar flourish, more prominent piano chords, and drums offers a fantastic payoff, while still maintaining the song’s intimacy.

Boundary” is a nod to Alexa‘s undoubted talent and potential. Given her background as an accomplished pianist and her sweet vocal delivery, this track would easily work in an unplugged setting too. Its a testament to the songwriting and places her firmly in the “ones to watch” category.
