M4TR – “Coup de Grace”

M4TR, the Washington, DC-based music project launched by creator and frontman AJ Solaris in 2016, is built around producing “apocalyptic electronic grooves from alternative futures.” M4TR, which expands to Music 4 The Revolution, offers social commentary while leaning into a bold mix of synth-pop, nu-disco, and funk, and that comes through clearly in their latest album, ‘Reimagination: The Remixes, Vol. 1.’

“Coup de Grace,” the maiden track of this album, is built on blocky, retro-leaning synths and a low end that moves with a slow, almost syrupy weight. Smooth, ethereal vocal layers sit cushioned between airy synth strokes, while darker, gothic-tinged textures quietly pull at the edges. Underneath it all, a steady, funk-leaning pulse, anchored by an 80s-tinged drum feel, keeps the track grounded even as it drifts into something hypnotic and faintly cosmic. The lyrics lean into reckoning and release, into shedding weight, reclaiming control, and bringing things to a decisive close without spectacle. Ultimately, “Coup de Grace” is the kind of song that draws you in, holds you there, and lets the moment stretch just a little longer than expected.

Solar Flare Alert – “Molto Caldo”

Italian musicians Erika Neri and Davide Ungaro are the duo behind the disco-driven project Solar Flare Alert. Emerging out of Agropoli on the Cilento Coast, the pair have a razor-sharp instinct for blending organic funk with sleek electronic textures, and “Molto Caldo” leans fully into that balance.

It opens with a bright brass flourish before slipping into a steady, funk-laced rhythm. What really sharpens the track is its rhythmic backbone. The percussion carries a subtle bite, adding just enough edge to offset the smoothness and keep things moving, while new textures reveal themselves with each pass. Erika Neri’s vocals glide through the instrumentation with an ease that feels effortless. The track thrives on interplay, becoming a space where everything contributes and nothing dominates. Ultimately, “Molto Caldo” is precise yet warm and fluid, and impossible to resist once it settles in.

Mo Rayon – “Fantasy”

Growing up in the secluded northern landscapes of Israel, musician Mo Rayon developed a sound that feels as inward-looking as it is exploratory. “Fantasy,” one of the tracks released under his latest album of the same title, carries that instinct all the way through.

Built on looping patterns and gently shifting textures, the track leans into repetition as a way of deepening the experience. The strings drift and blur, with percussion that flickers in and out beneath them. These quiet cycles create a sense of motion that feels circular, almost suspended. It carries that groggy, in-between feeling, where nothing is fully clear but everything still pulls you in. Vocally, there’s a hazy, weightless quality to the delivery. The lyrics dissolve into the surroundings, drifting alongside the production rather than rising above it. Every so often, Mo Rayon’s voice cuts through the haze with a more spoken, direct clarity, briefly grounding the track before it slips back into its dreamlike state. “Fantasy” is a song that slowly takes shape around you, like stepping into a half-formed dream you can’t quite place.
