Motihari Brigade – “Save Ourselves”

Based in Indianapolis, Motihari Brigade is an independent rock project founded by singer, guitarist, and songwriter Eric Winston. While paying homage to writer George Orwell, Motihari Brigade uses a sonic foundation of garage rock, punk, and blues to critique social conformity, digital propaganda, and cultural polarization. “Save Ourselves,” the latest single from the project, starts with a group of voices singing together in a highly dramatic, choir-like introduction before quickly exploding into a wall of crunchy, vibrating electric guitars and a solid rock beat. Lyrically, the song opens with a direct declaration that sets up a story of absolute self-reliance. The verses challenge the listener, urging them to preserve their critical thinking and remain skeptical. Rhythmically, the track channels a steady mid-tempo rock march, while a classic bassline and driving drums keep the energy moving forward.

Defiant, urgent, provocative, and intellectually rebellious, “Save Ourselves” is a musical reset button for grounding your own independent thoughts in today’s highly propagandised world.

Night House – “Heaven Knows”

Night House is an indie trio made up of producer and songwriter Nick Williams, cellist Robin Squirrell, and double bassist Alfie Weedon. Their latest song, “Heaven Knows,” pairs processed live drums and swirling synthesizers with uneven time signatures to explore the intense anxiety of a relationship ending. The lead vocals are highly dramatic and expressive, shifting from a quiet, tender whisper at the beginning of the track to soaring, anthemic peaks later in the song, when they are joined by stacked, theatrical backing vocals that mimic an operatic choir. This gives the performance a spiritual weight that carries a great deal of raw emotion. The lyrics capture the anxious, painful realization that a relationship is over, focusing on the fear of leaving. As the tension rises, the drums kick into a faster, driving tempo with powerful, dance-friendly beats, turning the heavy lyrics into a physically moving and energetic piece of music.

Cinematic, triumphant, and deeply sorrowful, “Heaven Knows” combines organic orchestral arrangements with electronic beats and lyric-driven songwriting to evoke a classical yet highly modern feel.

Future Mondays “Faithlessly”

Formed in the fast-paced music scene of New York City, Future Mondays is an indie rock band consisting of Sean (vocals/rhythm guitar), Alex (vocals/keys), Jacob (lead guitar), and Gian (drums). Merging the hook-heavy synthesizer tones of 1980s new wave with the high-octane grit of heartland punk, their sound channels the energetic spirit of bands like The Replacements, The Killers, and The Gaslight Anthem.

Their latest track, “Faithlessly,” co-produced alongside musician Tom Gardner, is led by thick, fuzzy electric guitars and a driving bassline that immediately gets your heart racing. Pounding acoustic drums and retro 80s-style keyboards team up to create a massive wall of sound that feels like a live concert. The vocals are gritty, and the overall production aims to capture the unedited push-and-pull adrenaline of the band’s live performances by completely bypassing digital click tracks during the recording sessions. The song moves at a blistering, relentless pace, wrapping up its entire story in just over two and a half minutes. Ultimately, “Faithlessly” supplies a quick shot of adrenaline to shake off slow, exhausting days.

Dame Haff “Brazil”

“Brazil” by London-born bassist and songwriter Dan Mehaffey, who goes by the moniker Dame Haff, is a standout track from his debut EP, ‘Nostalgia’. Produced and mixed by Oli Deakin, with drums by Tom Marsh, the song explores the intersection of retro indie-pop, DIY dream-pop, and observational songwriting. A steady acoustic steel-string guitar strumming pattern acts as the metronome of the song, establishing a folk-like, intimate foundation before any other instruments enter. The drums add a grounded, physical weight to the arrangement while the lead vocals are sung in a deep, natural baritone that keeps the performance feeling intimate and close to the listener through its matter-of-fact delivery style. The track has a deliberately unpolished, lo-fi DIY character, leaving room for subtle imperfections that give it a highly textured, lived-in feel.

With upbeat acoustic guitar and soaring synth lines that suggest warmth and sunshine, paired with a heavy vocal tone and themes of miscommunication, “Brazil” is for moments when you are physically moving forward but mentally looking backward.

suneaters johatsu

Suneaters – “Johatsu”

“Johatsu” by Kansas City-based indie rock band Suneaters is a track from their album ‘Suneaters V: Heroic Dose’. The song takes its title from the Japanese word jōhatsu (literally meaning “evaporation”), which refers to the thousands of citizens who intentionally vanish from their established lives each year to start completely fresh elsewhere. “Johatsu” builds linearly, leading with a quiet, slow-playing piano that gives the melody a sad and gentle quality from the very first note. Spacious, clean-toned guitars are paired with drums that lean into a sparse, delicate shuffle, allowing the melody to breathe. The lead vocal delivery is weary and flat, with an almost hushed cadence, while airy backing vocals float behind like a ghostly echo. Instead of reaching a dramatic musical climax, the song gracefully deconstructs itself toward the end, slowly fading out instrument by instrument.

Bittersweet, mellow, and heavily resigned, “Johatsu” captures the quiet, exhausting moment in a relationship when the fighting stops because both parties realize there is nothing left to save.
