A selection of new and/or relevant rock and indie-leaning tracks that have recently left an impression on us

Eisam – “At Eye Level

Eisam‘s “At Eye Level” is a powerhouse of a track that boasts electrifying energy, a contagious beat, and unshakable vocals. The song explores themes of self-discovery and solitude, fitting with Einsam‘s name, which means solitary in German. The high-tempo second half of the track builds to a frenzied crescendo with shrieking guitars and feedback. Throughout the steady, almost spoken vocal style echoes the likes of LCD Soundsystem, while the pounding drums and pulsating keys create a frenzied and hypnotic soundscape that’s hard to resist. Bristol-born producer and songwriter Sam Jackson has truly outdone himself with this track, showcasing both his songwriting and production skills to create something truly special.

Beck – “Thinking About You

Beck returns to his heartbroken disposition with his latest release, “Thinking About You”. The stripped-down acoustic ballad features the raw and emotional vocal delivery that we’ve come to associate with the mid-part of his career. The track invites speculation about his private life, as Beck grieves the loss of love and contemplates life alone. With its sparse yet romantic guitar melody, “Thinking About You” showcases Beck’s incredible songwriting and highlights his ability to convey powerful emotions with just his voice and a guitar. A beautiful and mournful piece of music that’s sure to resonate with fans new and old.

The hold steady

The Hold Steady – “Sixers

The Hold Steady’s latest release, “Sixers,” is a strange mix of fun, sweet, and sad. The story-song tells the tale of two young professionals who try to find a love connection over a weekend of partying together in their building, but ultimately fall short. Craig Finn’s lyrics are relatable, and the guitar harmonies provided by Tad and Steve are simply beautiful. The track is a promising preview of what’s to come on ‘The Price of Progress‘, set to drop March 31st via their Positive Jams label.

Ponderosa Grove – “Waterline

Ponderosa Grove’s “Waterline” is an emotionally captivating and beautifully crafted track that transports listeners to another time with its soulful and haunting sound. Candace Devine’s stunning vocals blend perfectly with the tender instrumentation and picturesque lyrics, promising a journey filled with hope and brighter days. The harmonization creates a dreamy and intriguing atmosphere that leaves the listener wanting more. “Waterline” is part of the band’s aptly titled debut album, “The Debut,” which is a celebration of community and diversity, capturing the joy and passion of this talented Arizona-based group. Ponderosa Grove‘s influences include the likes of Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles and Crosby Stills Nash and Young and these sounds are evident throughout the record. Like those artists, “Waterline” offers a soulful and moving musical experience.

Daughter – “Party

Daughter‘s latest single “Party” is a powerful track that showcases the band’s signature sound and emotional depth. The song deals with the struggles of sobriety and reflects on Elena Tonra‘s decision to give up alcohol. The lyrics are poignant and introspective, with Tonra’s emotive vocals capturing the complexities of the subject matter. The music video directed by Tiff Pritchett is equally captivating, featuring grainy, lo-fi footage that perfectly complements the song’s mood and theme. “Party” is the second single from Daughter‘s upcoming album “Stereo Mind Game,” and it promises to be a more optimistic offering that combines the band’s trademark melancholy with hopeful, uplifting tones.
