1ooo Handz – “Superwave”

Toronto based music producer and artist 1000 Handz opens electric new EP, Superwave, with this electric track. Being both the opening track and the titular track, Superwave really sets the tone for the rest of the EP. The track opens with an infectious and energetic beat, accompanied by atmospheric soundscapes layered on top. The gorgeous track dips in and out of this intense energy, giving the listener small pockets of reprieve before the track rushes and crashes again, like a majestic tidal wave that you are riding. Superwave moves true to its name. This is the perfect track for when you need to feel pumped up, whether that is during your morning commute or while making dinner.

C’Batch – “The Beat of the Night”

The Beat of the Night (Alternate Version) opens ‘Disc 1’ of New York based artist C’Batch’s latest album. This album is an ambitious venture, divided into two discs and consisting of twenty total tracks. Stephen H. Cumberbatch, or C’Batch, has truly outdone himself with this album. The Beat of the Night (Alternate Version) is a fantastic opener. The track opens with a bang, with notes of atmospheric synth bleeding instantly into an irresistible beat. Electronic percussions sustain throughout, standing out when the bass subsides. It introduces the album perfectly, making its cinematic and musical ambitions clear to the listener from the get go. It is impossible not to listen to the rest of the album after hearing this track.

To Lose You

Michael Gabriel – “To Lose You”

To Lose You opens with a melancholic and atmospheric melody that instantly establishes the full, reflective nature of the track. This gorgeous duet by Canadian composer Michael Gabriel and Jolene Macintyre transports you through an ambient soundscape. In this space, there are no final answers, no stories that are given away. This song expertly combines electronic melody with the slow cadence of spoken word poetry to create something absolutely unique. “I’ve watched seasons end, heard silence where there was once music…” the track opens, the voice somber. “Through all of it, one truth remains”, she says. “I never want to lose you.”

In each repetition, “I never want to lose you” becomes something else – gaining momentum, gathering a certain kind of desperate hope tinged with sorrow.

Romeo Saints – “Juju Vibes” (Radio Edit)

Juju Vibes (Radio Edit) does not wait around for cues; it jumps right into becoming the high energy banger that it is from the first second. The techno EDM track by British artist Romeo Saints is pumped through with strength and a spirit of resilience – “I forgot what my own voice sounded like/but I think I’m starting to remember.”.

The track is complexly layered, and each piece of music flows perfectly into the next. The soundscape is gritty – it’s got teeth and it isn’t at all afraid to use them. This track will have you head banging and dancing in no time, and will make you feel absolutely in your power doing it. A definite must add to any playlist.

C’Batch – “Next Time (I Won’t Be Falling/You’ve Got Me Falling)***-The Re-Mix

This track opens with a gorgeous melody, immediately joined by harmonization that you cannot turn away from. The track is both a promise and a lament, complete with lyrics that manage to really tell the story of love and regret that’s all too familiar – “Like honeydew to bee, you got a hold on me”.

Next Time (I Won’t Be Falling/You’ve Got Me Falling), created by artist C’Batch as a remix, is a delightful breathe of fresh air. The vocal layering on this track is absolutely stunning – the last minute of this song is such a treat that you cannot help but play it over and over again just to reach it again. This is the track you need to blast on repeat every time you go on a drive. This is definitely my favourite song on this playlist, and it ends far too soon.
